What is ayahuasca?

What is ayahuasca? Ayahuasca is a mixture of various plants

(the main ingredient is Banisteriopsis caapi), originally from the Amazon region. Ayahuasca is drunk as a tea to induce spiritual experiences. It is a fairly potent substance with various effects.

Spiritual experiences that can be intense

At Dutch-Smart, you can find various types (and forms) of ayahuasca ingredients , such as leaves and extracts. Ayahuasca is a potent brew that can induce extraordinary experiences. This is partly due to the DMT-containing plants combined with plants that contain MAOI inhibitors, which evoke these spiritual experiences. The exact effects vary from person to person, but many users even speak of a “rebirth” or a “spiritual awakening.” Because of the impact ayahuasca can have on you, it is recommended to use it only under the guidance of a shaman. This minimizes risks, in part because the shaman ensures that the correct dosage is used. Many people combine their vacation in the Amazon region with an ayahuasca session led by a shaman.

Is ayahuasca addictive?

No addictive effects of ayahuasca have been discovered yet. The biggest risks you face are those of a bad trip: you
might, for example, vomit a lot or suffer from diarrhea. However, the likelihood of this decreases if you ensure you
correct amount of ayahuasca, and if no ingredients such as cannabis are included in the ayahuasca drink. This
kind of potent plant extracts can completely derail the entire experience of the ayahuasca session.

First-time ayahuasca: what should you keep in mind?

If you’re going to use ayahuasca for the first time, it’s important to know in advance what you might
expect. Since the effects are different for everyone, there’s naturally no way to predict them. But there are many things
that happen to many people, and it’s helpful to at least be prepared for those. Here are a few tips:

● Do your research thoroughly beforehand. Read various (perhaps as many as possible) people’s experiences so that you
have a broad perspective and aren’t going in completely blind.

● Be prepared for the fact that your body may react strongly to the ayahuasca, even if you consume only a small amount
. Vomiting and diarrhea are common effects. If you assume you’ll experience these effects too, it might
actually turn out to be less intense than you expected.

● Research the place where you’ll be taking ayahuasca and the experience of the people who will be guiding you.
It is extremely important that there is at least one level-headed, experienced person present in the room who can intervene if
someone feels anxious or is struggling with the experience.

● Ask the shaman or an experienced user what you need to be aware of before taking ayahuasca. In
most cases, people take the ayahuasca drink on an empty stomach and have not
had sex. They have also often consumed—or avoided—certain foods.
