Truffle Grow Kits

With a truffle grow kit, you can grow your own magic truffles at home, with no prior knowledge and minimal effort. The kits contain fully matured substrate and are ready to set up. All you have to do is wait, harvest, and rinse. Freshly harvested truffles are more potent and taste better than ready-to-use varieties that have been sitting around for a while. Choose from varieties like Fantasia, Atlantis, Mexicana, Pajaritos, Pandora, Tampanensis, and more. Only suitable for people 18 years of age and older.

Important: The “egg” packaging is unfortunately not available. If you have purchased these kits before, please review the updated instructions. They differ from what you may be used to.

How does the truffle grow kit work?

The truffle grow kit is designed to ensure the sclerotia mature and are harvested perfectly. It actually works very simply:

  • The grow kit must remain sealed for at least 4 weeks at room temperature, but you can let the truffles continue growing for up to 20 weeks. The ideal temperature is between 21 and 23 degrees. Make sure no direct sunlight hits the truffle grow kit. After a few weeks, you’ll see the truffles growing. After 4 weeks, open the container and leave it open for 2 to 3 days with a clean dishcloth draped over it.
  • Use a colander for harvesting: empty the container into a colander and rinse it clean with tap water. The substrate will slowly come off the truffles; you can help the process by washing the truffles with your hands.
  • If you don’t use all the truffles at once, store them in the refrigerator.
  • Now you have the freshest and most potent magic truffles you’ve ever tasted. It’s best to use them within three days.

Also, keep the truffles out of direct sunlight while they’re developing and don’t store them in places with large temperature fluctuations. These are the most important rules for a good harvest. You can find a more detailed explanation on the manual page.

Why harvest them yourself?

With the magic truffle grow kit, you actually get fully grown truffles that you can harvest yourself. But if they’re fully grown, why not just buy them ready-made? Because the harvest is crucial. A freshly harvested truffle is many times more delicious and effective than one that has been sitting around for a while. As truffles age, their potency diminishes and the flavor becomes sour. And besides: how fun is it to watch your own psychedelic material grow? If you’d rather get started right away without growing them yourself, you’ll also find ready-to-use magic truffles in our selection.

Growing your own truffles: legal and accessible

The ban on magic mushrooms raises the question of whether growing magic truffles is also prohibited. The answer is no. Truffles are sclerotia, an underground part of the mycelium, and are therefore legally classified in a different category than the fruiting bodies of mushrooms. They are legal to grow and possess in the Netherlands. The active compounds are psilocybin and psilocin, which are converted in the liver into the active psilocin. You can read more about how they work in the knowledge base article on psilocybin.

Varieties in the truffle grow kit assortment

The strains in this assortment differ mainly in potency and effect profile. The Mexicana and Pajaritos are the mildest varieties, with cheerful and visual effects that are well-suited for a first-time experience. The Fantasia and Atlantis fall in the middle range, with more intense visual effects and a longer duration. The Pandora and Tampanensis are among the more potent varieties and are better suited for people with some experience. The Tampanensis Magic Jars from Magic Jars are a special variety where the mycelium grows in a jar and you harvest the truffles directly from the substrate. All varieties come as a 1+1 free promotion, so you immediately have a second kit on hand or can compare the first harvest.

Storing truffles after harvest

Store freshly harvested truffles in the refrigerator and use them preferably within 3 days for maximum potency. If you want to store them longer, you can dry them at room temperature or using a food dehydrator on a low setting. Dried truffles can be stored for months in a dark, dry place, but they lose some potency during the drying process. Frequently Asked Questions About Truffle Grow Kits

How long does it take before my truffle grow kit is ready for harvest?

The truffles are ready for harvest at least 4 weeks after setting up the kit. You can also leave them in for longer, up to a maximum of 20 weeks, for a larger and heavier harvest. The longer you wait, the larger and denser the sclerotia become. Visually inspect the kit after 4 weeks to assess whether the truffles have grown sufficiently.

What is the difference between a truffle grow kit and ready-to-eat magic truffles?

With a grow kit, you harvest the truffles yourself when you’re ready, ensuring they’re as fresh as possible. Freshly harvested truffles are more potent and taste less sour than pre-packaged varieties that have been sitting in the fridge for days. If you want to get started right away without growing them yourself, check out the ready-to-use magic truffles.

How many truffles does a grow kit yield?

The yield varies by strain and how long you let the kit grow. On average, a truffle grow kit yields between 150 and 400 grams of fresh truffles. Keep in mind that a typical dose for a beginner is around 7 to 10 grams fresh, and a stronger dose is closer to 15 grams.

Is growing magic truffles legal in the Netherlands?

Yes. Sclerotia (truffles) are not covered by the Opium Act, unlike the fruiting bodies of mushrooms. Growing, possessing, and using magic truffles is legal in the Netherlands. Truffle grow kits are therefore readily available and may be used at home by individuals 18 years of age and older.

Which strain is suitable for a first-time experience?

The Mexicana and Pajaritos are the most accessible strains for a first-time experience. They have a milder effect than, for example, the Pandora or Tampanensis, allowing you to better gauge how your body reacts. You can read more about responsible use and dosing in the knowledge base, in the article on psilocybin and the brain.

Can I microdose with truffles from a grow kit?

That is possible, but it requires precise dosing. A microdose is around 0.5 to 1 gram fresh, an amount at which you won’t experience noticeable psychedelic effects but may experience subtle cognitive benefits. You can find more background on the topic in the knowledge base article on microdosing.

Are there risks associated with using magic truffles?

Yes. At higher doses, psilocybin can cause anxiety, confusion, or overwhelming experiences. Do not use truffles in combination with antidepressants (particularly SSRIs or MAO inhibitors) without consulting a healthcare professional. Never use alone and ensure you are in a safe, familiar environment. If you have questions about a specific situation or combination, please contact customer service. Suitable only for individuals 18 years of age and older.
