How do you use a grinder?
A grinder always has two parts that fit together. The top and bottom contain small teeth. When you twist the two halves in opposite directions, your herbs or tobacco are finely ground by the teeth. The ground material collects at the bottom of the grinder, ready to use. Does it take long? Not at all—just a few seconds of turning and you’re done. It’s incredibly practical, especially if you choose a compact model that you can take with you anywhere.
What types are there?
We don’t need to get too fancy about grinders, since they all do the same thing: grind the contents. Still, there are definitely differences between the types. These differences mainly lie in the material and the look:
- Plastic grinders: Plastic grinders are affordable and lightweight. If you don’t need anything fancy but want a practical grinder, a plastic model is perfect.
- Metal grinders: the metal versions are a lot sturdier and more attractive than their plastic counterparts. Sometimes you’ll come across very stylish ones, engraved with logos or images. In almost all cases, they last longer than plastic grinders. This also makes them slightly more expensive.
- Wooden grinders: wooden grinders have a really cool style of their own. They don’t last as long as metal versions, but they often look quite unique. So, do you appreciate visual appeal, but metal isn’t your thing? Then a wooden grinder is perfect for you.
In addition to the difference in material and appearance, grinders can be distinguished in yet another way: namely, by how many parts they consist of. We mentioned above that a grinder always has two parts that fit together, but in fact, there are also a number of more complex variants available. Generally, a distinction is made between the following “formats”:
- 2-piece grinders: These are the simplest grinders available, consisting only of a lid and a chamber where the herb is ground. These two-piece grinders do not have a compartment to catch kief, but they are significantly smaller and more compact than 3- or 4-piece grinders.
- 3-piece grinders: These grinders do have an extra compartment designed to catch your weed after it’s been ground fine enough to pass through small holes in the middle compartment. Although they still don’t allow you to collect kief,¹to collect kief, they’re much more practical because you don’t have to empty them onto a surface and risk losing your precious weed.
