ZenPen - stainless steel hash tool
The ZenPen is a pen-shaped tool from the Dutch company The Hash Grinder Company, designed specifically for handling hash rather than cannabis flower. Instead of a classic toothed grinder, the ZenPen uses a removable needle: you heat the tip, press the pen into a block of hash, then push the needle back in to extrude the hash as a thin, even string. That string can then be laid straight into a joint.
The materials were chosen after an extensive testing phase: the housing, internal rod and cutting tip are made of stainless steel, and the side clip of stainless iron. Because hash in string form has more surface area than a compact block, the maker states it burns more efficiently, while also avoiding the sticky fingers and hot crumbs that can come from handling hash by hand.
Use and care
Heat the tip of the ZenPen in the blue core of a flame for about 10 seconds so it does not blacken. Pull out the needle, press the heated tip into the block of hash, then push the needle back into the pen to extrude the hash as a string. The sharp edge of the tip can also be used to scrape small pieces off a block, much like you would with a fingernail. Clean the ZenPen with a cloth after use and store it using the clip, for example on a pocket.
