DUD Shisha Charcoal Tongs - 33 cm

Hookah sessions almost always run on coconut charcoal, since it burns more evenly, for longer and with less smell than regular barbecue charcoal. Natural coconut charcoal reaches temperatures of roughly 650 to 750°C in use, while barbecue charcoal typically only gets to 300 to 400°C. At those temperatures, ordinary kitchen tools simply aren't up to the job: a proper pair of charcoal tongs has a long, heat-resistant handle and firm tips that hold the coal securely without it slipping. This 33 cm DUD tongs is built exactly for that, keeping a safe distance between your hand and the glowing coal.

Use

Hold the coal with the tongs just above a lighter or coal burner until it starts to glow; a faint hissing sound is the sign that it's catching properly. Blow gently on the coal until it glows evenly red on every side, and only then place it on the hookah's heat management screen using the tongs. Turn the coal over occasionally with the tongs so it keeps burning evenly on all sides and the smoke doesn't turn harsh or bitter. Use the tongs again after the session to lift the coal safely off the hookah and into a heatproof container.

Care and safety

Let the tongs cool down after use before putting them away, and wipe off any ash from the tips. Never place glowing coals directly on a flammable surface and never leave them unattended: coconut charcoal keeps smouldering for a long time even after you've finished smoking.
