Cactus Growing Kit - Various Species

Cactus growing kit: grow your own cacti from seed

Growing cacti from seed takes patience, but it's one of the most rewarding ways to build a collection. This kit gives you everything you need to get started.

Contents

• Seeds of your choice: including 20 peyote seeds or 20 San Pedro seeds

• Cactus compost

• Sand, for better drainage

• Fine gravel, which keeps the soil airy

• Perlite, for a good soil structure

• Propagator with a sealable lid, which keeps humidity at the right level

• Step-by-step instructions

How to start

Mix the compost, sand and perlite, moisten the soil lightly and sprinkle the seeds on top. Cactus seed needs light to germinate, so don't cover it with soil. Close the propagator and place it in a bright, warm spot, but not in strong sun. Then follow the included instructions. Cacti germinate and grow slowly, peyote in particular. Expect it to take months before your seedlings look like small cacti.

Legal status and safety

Peyote and San Pedro naturally contain mescaline, a substance on List I of the Dutch Opium Act. The cacti themselves may be bought and kept in the Netherlands as an ornamental plant. Dutch-Smart sells this kit for growing ornamental plants, not for consumption. Keep the plants out of reach of children and pets. Taking them abroad? Check the local laws first.

More seeds and cacti

Loose seeds are available too, such as our peyote seeds. Prefer a plant straight away? Browse our cacti, such as the 50-60 cm San Pedro.
