Sandalwood - Satya, 15 gram incense sticks
Satya is one of the best-known producers of Nag Champa incense worldwide, making its sticks at the Shrinivas Sugandhalaya factory in Bangalore, India. For this Sandalwood variant, a sandalwood base is layered with floral oil extracts, giving a softer, woodier scent than the classic Nag Champa fragrance. Each stick is hand-rolled onto a bamboo core using the traditional masala method: a paste of wood powder, resins and fragrance oils is applied around the core and then left to dry. Sandalwood has been valued in Indian incense-making for centuries for its soft, creamy scent and has traditionally also been used in perfumery and temple rituals.
A 15-gram box usually holds 12 to 15 sticks, each burning for roughly 30 to 50 minutes depending on humidity and airflow in the room. Satya incense has been sold internationally since the 1970s and is now one of the best-known brands in the category.
Use
Place the stick upright in an incense holder with enough ash or sand catchment beneath the tip. Light the tip with a lighter or match, let the flame burn for a few seconds, then blow it out: the stick keeps smouldering and releases the sandalwood scent into the room. Make sure the room is well ventilated and never leave burning incense unattended, especially near curtains or other flammable material.
Storage
Keep the sticks dry and at room temperature, preferably in the box itself, so the fragrance oils don't evaporate before use. Besides Sandalwood, Dutch-smart.nl also carries Jasmine and other Satya scents for anyone who wants to try a different aroma.
