Bali Green Kratom - Mitragyna Speciosa
Kratom is the common name for the leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, a tree from the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. The tree has been used there for generations within local plant tradition, with the leaf chewed or brewed as tea. Bali, like Borneo and Malay, is one of the well-known origin names within the kratom range.
Kratom is divided into white vein, green vein and red vein, based on when the leaf is harvested. Green vein is harvested at a point between the early-picked white vein and the late-picked red vein, giving a balanced alkaloid profile: not as markedly stimulating as white vein, not as markedly relaxing as red vein. Kratom leaf naturally contains a range of alkaloids, of which mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine are the best known; the exact composition varies by harvest and processing.
Dosage
The right dose is personal and depends on body weight, experience and the desired effect. As a general guideline, 1 to 3 grams gives most people a lighter, more stimulating effect, and 3 to 5 grams a calmer, more relaxed feeling. Always start with a low dose, especially with a strain you don't know yet, and only increase once you know how you respond. The first effects are usually noticeable after 15 to 30 minutes.
Use
The most popular preparation in the Netherlands is kratom tea: dissolve the powder in hot, not boiling, water, let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes and strain out the leaf. Honey or lemon softens the bitter taste. Those who prefer not to make tea can take the measured amount of powder directly in the mouth and wash it down with water or juice ("toss and wash"), or mix the powder into a smoothie or fruit juice. Combining with alcohol is not recommended.
Storage
Store kratom powder dry, dark and sealed airtight, to preserve its alkaloid content for as long as possible.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Bali Green and Green Malay Kratom?
Both are green-vein strains with a broadly similar balanced profile, but the origin name, and with it the precise alkaloid ratio, differs. Which variant suits you best is largely a matter of personal preference; it's worth trying both side by side at a low dose.
