Unique Characteristics of Jack Frost Mushrooms

Jack Frost mushrooms are recognizable by their white or light blue caps, which have an icy, crystalline appearance. The sturdy stems range from white to bluish, and the gills start out white but darken as the spores mature. Jack Frost spores measure 7 x 12 micrometers. Although this variety does not release spores during sporulation, they can be viewed under magnification using a cotton swab. Upon germination, clamp connections and finely feathered mycelium are visible.
