AAA Batteries for a Scale
Most compact digital scales in the Dutch-Smart range, such as the mini scales used to accurately weigh herbs, kratom or supplements, run on AAA batteries. These batteries replace the original set as soon as the display gets dim or stops lighting up altogether.
When to replace
A scale that will not turn on, a flickering display, or a weight reading that varies slightly each time are typical signs of a battery reaching the end of its life. Digital scales are sensitive to low voltage: a weak battery can already cause small deviations in the weighing result, which is frustrating when you want to weigh precisely.
Usage
Open the battery compartment on the underside of the scale, usually with a small screw or sliding cover, and insert the new batteries with the polarity as indicated inside the compartment. Close the compartment properly before using the scale, so dirt or moisture cannot reach the contact points.
Storage
Store spare batteries dry and at room temperature, out of reach of children. Remove batteries from a scale you will not use for a while, to prevent leakage and damage to the contact points.
Which type to choose
Alkaline batteries give most digital scales stable voltage and a long lifespan for normal, occasional use. If you use the scale very often, rechargeable AAA batteries (NiMH) are a more economical option in the long run, although they typically deliver a slightly lower voltage, which can trigger a low-battery warning on some scales even though there is still plenty of capacity left. Always hand in old batteries at a battery collection point instead of throwing them in the general waste.
