Dragon's Blood - 10 ml
Dragon's Blood is the collective name for bright red resins obtained from several unrelated plant species: the Daemonorops palm from Southeast Asia, the Dracaena tree (including the species native to the island of Socotra), the South American Croton, and the Asian Pterocarpus. All these resins share the same deep, ruby-red colour, which is why they were traded under the same name for centuries despite their different botanical origins. This bottle contains a liquid, processed form of the resin, suited for anyone who would rather not burn or work with the solid resin.
History and use
The resin has a long history across many cultures. In antiquity, Dragon's Blood was used as a varnish, including for violin making, and as a red dye for textiles and furniture. On the island of Socotra, residents used the Dracaena resin to dye wool, glue pottery, and even as an early form of lipstick. In Chinese tradition, the resin served as a red varnish for wooden furniture and as a colourant for festive paper. It has also long been used in ritual and spiritual traditions, including folk magic and modern pagan practice, as an incense ingredient and in ink for writing symbols and seals.
Application
Thanks to its liquid form, this 10 ml bottle works well for craft applications such as colouring candle wax, making ink, or adding a scent component to homemade incense blends. Dose carefully: a small amount already gives a clearly visible, deep red colour.
Storage
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, to prevent discolouration or drying out.
