Tampanensis Magic Truffles – 15 grams
Psilocybe Tampanensis was discovered in 1977 by mycobiologist Dr. Steven Pollock near Tampa, Florida. It was the first psilocybin-containing sclerotium to be successfully cultivated, later further developed by mycologist Paul Stamets. Because of this history, the species is nicknamed "Philosopher's Stones," a name that also refers to the predominantly mental and introspective nature of the experience.
After ingestion, the active compound psilocybin is converted to psilocin, which acts as a partial agonist on the serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Users typically describe the Tampanensis experience as thought-provoking and reflective, with less pronounced visual effects than potent strains like Hollandia or Space Invaders. This makes the strain suitable for people trying truffles for the first time or those who consciously choose a less intense, more contemplative experience.
Dosage
Taking on an empty stomach produces the strongest and most predictable effect. The correct amount depends on your body weight, whether the truffles are fresh or dried, and how intense you want the experience to be. Use the calculator below to determine your personal starting dose:
The first effects are noticeable after 20 to 45 minutes. The total duration averages between 3 and 5 hours. Due to its milder potency, Tampanensis has a somewhat wider dosage range than stronger varieties, but the same rule applies here: start low and build up if necessary on a subsequent occasion.
Usage
The most direct method is to eat the truffles whole or in small pieces on an empty stomach. If you are prone to nausea, it is better to make tea: finely chop the sclerotia, pour water at a maximum of 70°C over it, and let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain out the solids and drink the tea slowly. The steeping process can be repeated for a second, milder serving.
Combining with alcohol or other psychoactive substances is strongly discouraged, even with a milder variety such as Tampanensis.
Storage
Store the truffles unopened in the refrigerator at 2–4°C until the expiration date. Use as soon as possible after opening. Tampanensis may dry out slightly and lose some weight during transport, but the psilocybin concentration remains guaranteed. A slight blue discoloration due to damage is normal and indicates oxidation of psilocybin, not spoilage.
Harm reduction
Use Tampanensis truffles only if you are feeling well, both mentally and physically. Avoid use if you have a history (personal or familial) of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. Do not combine with SSRIs, lithium, or MAO inhibitors. Ensure you are in a familiar environment and preferably have a sober person present. Available exclusively to individuals 18 years of age and older.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tampanensis suitable as a first truffle experience?
Yes, Tampanensis is one of the most suitable strains for a first-time experience. Its milder potency allows more room to get used to the effects without feeling overwhelmed. Be sure to start with a low dose based on the calculator above, even if the strain is known to be mild. For a complete overview of all strains, visit the magic truffles category page.
Why are Tampanensis also called Philosopher’s Stones?
The nickname refers partly to the strain’s history as the first cultivated psilocybin sclerotium, and partly to the nature of the experience: users describe the effects as contemplative and thought-provoking, more inwardly focused than visual. The name has become a popular term in the smart shop world, not an official botanical term.
How does Tampanensis differ from Mexicana?
Both species are considered mild, but Tampanensis is generally known for a slightly more mental and introspective profile, while Mexicana is often described as having a somewhat more cheerful and lighthearted character. In practice, the differences are subtle and highly dependent on set and setting. If you want to compare both strains, it’s best to try them in separate sessions using the same dosage.
Can I use Tampanensis for microdosing?
Yes. A microdose is typically between 0.5 and 1.5 grams of fresh truffles, well below the threshold for noticeable psychedelic effects. Due to its milder potency, Tampanensis is a practical choice for microdosing. For ready-to-use microdosing products, you can also check out our truffle assortment.
