Palo Santo - Satya

Satya is one of the best-known makers of hand-rolled Nag Champa incense, producing its sticks at the Srinivas Sugandhalaya factory in Bangalore, India. For this variant, the classic masala base of wood powder and resins is paired with a fragrance inspired by Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), a wood that grows naturally in the coastal forests of Ecuador and Peru. The wood only becomes fragrant once the tree has died naturally and matured for years; its smoke has traditionally been used in cleansing rituals in the Andes. The fragrance profile this incense stick recreates is woody and sweet with a fresh citrus undertone.

Use

Place the stick upright in an incense holder or push the bottom tip into sand or dried soil so the ash can fall safely. Light the tip with a lighter or match, let the flame burn for about 10 seconds, then blow it out: the stick keeps smouldering and slowly releases its scent through the room. Make sure there is enough ventilation and never leave burning incense unattended, especially near curtains or other flammable material.

Storage
