An oil containing eucalyptol is extracted from various species of eucalyptus. The leaves of the eucalyptus tree were used by the Nyungah Aborigines. The leaves were crushed to form a paste, which was added to their diet for various purposes.

Due to its well-known fresh scent, the most famous medicinal property of eucalyptus is, of course, soothing the mouth and throat.
