Ginger Plant 1:1 Extract - Zingiber officinale
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is native to South Asia and has been used for thousands of years, both in cooking and in traditional herbal medicine, including Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Ginger root was already being exported to Europe in the first century for the lucrative spice trade and is now one of the most widely consumed spices in the world. The extract is obtained from the rhizome of the plant, the underground part where ginger stores its characteristic sharp, warm taste and aroma.
This extract is a 1:1 tincture: the ratio between plant material and solvent during the extraction process is chosen so that the tincture contains a high, standardised concentration of the plant per drop. That makes a tincture practical to use: no need to brew tea or grate root, a few drops are enough.
Dosage
Start with a small number of drops and build up gradually, especially the first time you use it. Dissolve the drops in some water, tea or another liquid of choice; taking it undiluted can feel quite strong due to the concentration and the sharp taste. Dose accurately by counting the drops rather than estimating by eye.
Use
Shake the bottle well before use, as tinctures can settle somewhat over time. Preferably take the extract at a quiet moment of the day, so you can properly gauge how it suits you before adjusting the amount.
Storage
Store the bottle upright, in the dark and at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Always close the cap tightly after use so the tincture doesn't dry out or change in quality. Keep out of reach of children.
This extract pairs well with other herbal tinctures from the Dutch-Smart range, such as the Mexican Arnica extract and the Gnaphalium oxyphyllum 1:1 extract, for anyone looking to combine or compare multiple plant extracts.
