Mexican Arnica 1:1 Extract - Heterotheca inuloides
Heterotheca inuloides, known in Mexico as "árnica mexicana", is a plant from the daisy family (Asteraceae) that has long been part of Mexican folk medicine. Flowers, leaves and stems are traditionally processed into ointments, compresses and tinctures, used among other things for bruises, muscle pain and other aches in muscles and joints. The plant is used in folk medicine in a way similar to European Arnica montana, although the active compounds of the two species are not identical. Scientific research into Heterotheca inuloides has identified plant compounds including flavonoids, sesquiterpenes and phytosterols.
This extract is a 1:1 tincture: the ratio of plant material to solvent used during extraction is chosen so the tincture contains a high, standardised concentration of the plant per drop. That makes a tincture practical to use, there is no need to brew tea or weigh out herbs, a few drops are enough.
Dosage
Start with a small number of drops and build up gradually, especially the first time you use it. Dissolve the drops in some water or another liquid of your choice, taking it undiluted can taste strong due to the concentration. Dose accurately by counting the drops rather than estimating by eye.
Use
Shake the bottle well before use, tinctures can settle somewhat over time. Preferably take the extract at a quiet moment of the day, so you can properly gauge how it suits you before adjusting the amount if needed. Do not casually combine a tincture with alcohol or medication, given possible interactions.
Storage
Store the bottle upright, in a dark place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Make sure the cap is properly closed after each use so the tincture does not dry out or change in quality. Keep out of reach of children.
This Fit-UP extract pairs well with other herbal tinctures in the Dutch-Smart range, such as the Chaga extract and the Gnaphalium oxyphyllum 1:1 extract, for anyone who wants to combine or compare multiple plant extracts.
