True Chamomile 1:1 Extract - Matricaria Chamomilla
True chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla, also known as Matricaria recutita) is an annual plant from the daisy family that grows naturally in southeastern Europe and parts of Asia. The plant is recognized by its fine, feathery leaves and its characteristic flowers with yellow centers and white ray petals. Chamomile has been used since classical antiquity and is one of the best-known herbs worldwide, most commonly prepared as tea.
This extract is a 1:1 tincture: the ratio of plant material to solvent during extraction is chosen so the tincture holds a high, standardized concentration of the plant per drop. Chamomile flower heads contain, among other compounds, chamazulene, which carries through during extraction and contributes to the characteristic bluish tint of chamomile essential oil.
Dosage
Start with a small number of drops and build up gradually, especially the first time you use the extract. Dissolve the drops in water or another liquid of your choice; taking it undiluted can taste strong due to the concentration.
Use
Shake the bottle well before use, as tinctures can settle somewhat over time. Keep the included dropper clean and avoid letting the extract come into contact with other liquids to prevent contamination.
Storage
Store the bottle upright, in the dark, and at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Make sure the cap is properly closed after each use so the tincture doesn't dry out or lose quality. Keep out of reach of children.
This extract fits alongside other herbal tinctures in Dutch-Smart's Fit-UP range, such as the Gnaphalium oxyphyllum extract, for anyone looking to combine or compare multiple plant extracts.
