Wild lettuce (Lactuca virosa) contains the compounds lactucopicrin and lactucin. Due to their properties, these compounds are sometimes compared to opiates, but their effects differ greatly. Natural plants such as Wild Lettuce have been used since ancient times for a variety of reasons. 

What is Lactuca Virosa?

The herb thrives in sunny locations and can grow up to 1.8 meters tall. That’s quite a lettuce! When touched in a certain way, the plant secretes a milky, white substance known as lactucarium.

This lettuce is now processed into powders, oils, and pills for various reasons. 

Uses of Wild Lettuce

To make tea, steep 1–2 teaspoons in a cup of boiled water for 10–15 minutes. Avoid using these leaves if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
