What are dream herbs?
What are dream herbs? Dream herbs are literally herbs that you use to make your dreams more vivid. You can use dream herbs in various ways, but one of the most common ways is to drink herbal tea. There are various types of dream herbs, many of which are of African origin.
The effects
Dream herbs have been used for a very long time in all kinds of cultures, mainly as a way to communicate with (the spirits of) ancestors. However, don’t expect that you’ll immediately start speaking with distant ancestors in your dreams: that really varies from person to person. Not everyone experiences the same (level of) effects from dream herbs, so keep that in mind before you start.
Generally, people use dream herbs to experience “lucid” dreams. These are dreams in which you are fully aware that you are dreaming, and thus more or less in control. You also tend to remember your dreams much better. The first time, it might still be a bit difficult to experience that control 100 percent, but if you take dream herbs more often, this can improve. In principle, it’s harmless to use these herbs more often, but be sure to stick to the recommended dose. Always read the package insert before use!
Extra tip: if you’re making herbal tea with dream herbs, add a little honey or sugar to make the taste a bit less bitter.
What should you keep in mind?
If you use dream herbs on an empty stomach, you’ll generally experience the strongest effects. If you enjoy a “late-night” snack, skip it for one night if you want your dream herbs to work optimally! You can’t really influence how your dream will unfold beforehand. However, your dreams do “work” the same way you’re used to: you usually process the events of that day. So these can certainly include negative experiences as well. So try to take dream herbs when you feel relaxed and content, and when you have relatively few worries or stress.
