Melissa Officinalis, better known as Lemon Balm, belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is best known for its strong lemon scent. The plant is primarily found in Southern Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia, but the 0.5-meter-tall plant is also widely cultivated in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The name lemon balm comes from the Ancient Greek word Melisse, which means “honeybee.” This name is not entirely surprising: lemon balm attracts a huge number of bees and is known as an important source of nectar.
