Rose of Jericho

The Rose of Jericho (Selaginella pilifera) is a desert fern that can survive for up to 50 years without water. When the ball of curled-up brown or gray leaves is placed in a bowl of water, the leaves magically unfurl and quickly turn green again.

Usage

Place the rose in a bowl with about two centimeters of water, and after about three days it will open up and turn green. The water must be changed regularly. After it has been open for a week, you can let it dry out again.

If the plant develops mold, you can purchase an antifungal agent at a garden center, dissolve a few drops in half a liter of water, and place the rose in it and sprinkle it with the solution.
