Precision scales – always the right dosage

When working with certain herbs and plant extracts, you must always pay close attention to the dosage. Just a few grams too much can mean the difference between a good trip and a bad one. But how exactly do you find the right dosage? By feel? No; we have special precision scales for that. These scales can weigh with an accuracy of up to 0.01 grams. So you’ll never have trouble finding the right dosage again!

What kinds of precision scales are there?

Precision scales literally come in all shapes and sizes. They can be fairly large, or so small that they fit in your pocket. Some have a flashy little screen, while others are very basic. There are even scales that are “disguised” as other objects, such as CD cases, notebooks, and calculators. So these scales don’t stand out at all.

There is also a difference in the precision of the scales. Some scales are accurate, but not exceptionally so: these measure to an accuracy of 0.5 or 0.1 grams. For most herbs and plants, that is more than enough. But for other extracts, you need a more precise scale: one that can weigh with an accuracy of 0.01 grams. Most precision scales are that accurate.

Choosing a Precision Scale

Now, of course, you’re wondering which precision scale you should choose. That depends mainly on the herbs and plants you want to weigh. Go through the following checklist when choosing a precision scale:

  • Do I need a large surface area (for plant leaves) or a smaller surface area (for powders)?
  • Does my dosage need to be very precise?
  • Do I want to be able to easily take my precision scale with me?
  • Does my precision scale need to be “discreet”?
  • What is the maximum weight my scale needs to be able to measure?

These questions are very important when choosing a precision scale. In terms of price, it doesn’t really matter which scale you choose. Most precision scales cost between €20 and €30. You’ll pay more for highly accurate scales (with multiple decimal places) or scales that can be connected to a printer. But for the average user, a €20 precision scale is more than enough.
