Razor blade (chopping blade) - gold-coloured

A razor blade, in this context also called a chopping blade, is a straight, thin blade with a protective edge along the top so you can hold it safely between thumb and forefinger. It has traditionally been used to prepare powdered substances: the straight edge chops up clumps and pulls the powder out into a thin, even layer on a tray, mirror or other flat surface.

This version has a gold-coloured finish and is similar in size to a classic razor blade, making it light and thin enough to carry in a snuff kit or case. It's often sold as part of a set together with a snuff tray, spoon or tube, but is available here on its own for anyone building their own kit or replacing a blade.

Use

Place the powder on a flat, clean surface and use the straight edge of the blade to chop up any clumps. Then drag the blade flat across the surface to spread the powder into an even layer or line. Work slowly and with light pressure: the thin blade is sharp and can bend or snap under too much force.

Care and storage

Wipe the blade clean after use with a dry or slightly damp cloth and store it in its holder or a dry compartment so it can't accidentally cut anyone. Keep it out of the reach of children. With normal use, a metal razor blade lasts a long time before it dulls.
