Ashwagandha 5%, TPA alkaloid extract of Withania somnifera
Withania somnifera, known as ashwagandha or winter cherry, is a shrub from the nightshade family (Solanaceae) native to India, North Africa and the Middle East. The plant's root has been used for more than 3,000 years in Ayurvedic herbal tradition, where it is classified as a rasayana: a rejuvenating tonic used to support vitality and help the body cope with exertion. Besides its signature withanolides, the root also naturally contains small amounts of alkaloids, volatile oils and steroids.
This extract is produced with the TPA method (Total Purified Alkaloids): the root's active compounds, mainly the withanolides (including withaferin A), are isolated through several extraction and purification steps and then dissolved in an ethanol and water base to a concentration of 5%. The result is a clear liquid extract without plant residue, wax or chlorophyll.
Dosage
Start with 5 to 10 drops (about 0.25-0.5 ml) per use and assess your response before increasing the dose; due to its high purity this extract is stronger per volume than dried ashwagandha root.
Use
The extract can be taken sublingually (drops under the tongue) or diluted in a small amount of water or juice; the taste is sharp due to the ethanol content, so diluting makes it more pleasant. Do not use ashwagandha during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication, or if you are under 18. Do not combine it with larger amounts of alcohol or sedatives.
Storage
Store the extract cool, dark and upright with the cap closed, out of reach of children. Close the cap tightly after use to prevent the ethanol from evaporating. At Dutch-Smart you will also find other TPA alkaloid extracts such as Damiana, Happy Skullcap and Catuaba.
