Holy Pink Lotus, TPA alkaloid extract of Nelumbo nucifera
Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred or pink lotus, is an aquatic plant from the lotus family (Nelumbonaceae), native to South and Southeast Asia and parts of China. The plant is a sacred symbol of purity in Hinduism and Buddhism, and its leaves, flowers and seeds have been used for centuries in traditional Asian herbalism, among other things as a calming remedy for stress, insomnia and fever. The petals and leaves naturally contain aporphine alkaloids, including nuciferine, which has been studied in laboratory research for calming and neuroprotective properties; this is preclinical research so far, not an established medical effect in humans.
This extract is produced with the TPA method (Total Purified Alkaloids): the alkaloids are isolated from the plant through several extraction and purification steps and then dissolved in an ethanol and water base. The result is a clear liquid extract without plant residue, wax or chlorophyll.
Dosage
Start with 5 to 10 drops (about 0.25-0.5 ml) per use and assess your response before increasing the dose.
Use
The extract can be taken sublingually (drops under the tongue) or diluted in a small amount of water or tea; the taste is sharp due to the ethanol content, so diluting makes it more pleasant. Do not use this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are under 18. Do not combine it with larger amounts of alcohol or sedatives.
Storage
Store the extract cool, dark and upright with the cap closed, out of reach of children. Close the cap tightly after use to prevent the ethanol from evaporating. At Dutch-Smart you will also find other TPA alkaloid extracts such as Damiana, Happy Skullcap and Banisteriopsis caapi.
