Banisteriopsis caapi, TPA alkaloid extract 20%
Banisteriopsis caapi is a woody liana of the Malpighiaceae family, native to the Amazon basin of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. The plant is known worldwide as the base ingredient of ayahuasca, the traditional plant brew that indigenous peoples of the Amazon have used in ritual and ceremonial contexts for centuries. The stem and leaves naturally contain beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmaline and tetrahydroharmine, described in the scientific literature as reversible MAO-A inhibitors.
This extract is produced with the TPA method (Total Purified Alkaloids): the alkaloids are isolated from the plant material through several extraction and purification steps, then dissolved in an ethanol and water base to a concentration of 20%. The result is a clear liquid extract without plant residue, wax or chlorophyll, so without the broader-spectrum compounds still present in the dried leaf or stem.
Dosage
Like our other Banisteriopsis caapi products, we offer this extract strictly as an ethnobotanical and educational herbal product, not for human consumption. Partly because of the MAO-A-inhibiting alkaloids, known for interactions with certain foods and medication, we do not give dosage advice.
Use
The extract is meant for anyone interested in the botany and history of the Amazon, for study purposes or as an addition to a collection of ethnobotanical plants. Use is at the buyer's own responsibility.
Storage
Store the extract cool, dark and upright with the cap closed, out of reach of children. Ethanol-based extracts are stable at room temperature for a long time when stored correctly; close the cap tightly after use to prevent the ethanol from evaporating. At Dutch-Smart you will also find the alkaloid extracts of Blue Lotus and Kanna in the same line, and the dried Banisteriopsis caapi leaf in the ayahuasca range.
