Morinda Officinalis 10:1 Extract
Morinda officinalis is a root herb from the Rubiaceae family, native to the Lingnan region in southern China, where it is one of the four best-known local herbs. In traditional Chinese medicine the root is known as Ba Ji Tian and has been described since the Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing; the species has been listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia since 1963. Traditionally, the root is classed among the herbs that nourish Kidney Yang, with a sweet, slightly pungent and warming taste according to TCM classification.
For this extract, the dried root is concentrated through a 10:1 extraction process: for every 10 grams of root material, 1 gram of extract powder remains. As a result, you need considerably less material than the raw root to reach the same concentration, and the fine powder dissolves more easily than a piece of dried root.
Dosage
Because this is a 10:1 extract, a fraction of the amount used for the raw root is enough. Start with a small amount, for example the tip of a teaspoon, and only increase once you know how you respond to it.
Use
Dissolve the powder in warm water to make a tea, or process it into an empty capsule of your choice. In traditional herbalism, Morinda officinalis is advised against during pregnancy or breastfeeding; consult a doctor or pharmacist if in doubt or when using medication.
Storage
Store the extract dry, dark and airtight in its original packaging, so the powder doesn't clump from moisture.
