Four capsules, four very different nights
Happy Caps is one of the most popular brands in our smart shop. But behind that single brand name sit more than ten variants, each with its own formula and a distinct effect. Trip-E is a different animal from Party-E, and anyone expecting Euphor-E who takes Sex-E instead ends up with a completely different evening.
At Dutch-Smart, we sell them all and get the question daily: which one should I get? In this piece, we put four popular variants side by side. For each capsule, we explain what is in it, what it does, how long it lasts and which situation it suits. With the ingredient lists, the pharmacology behind them and our own sales data.
Trip-E: the psychedelic capsule
Trip-E is the only Happy Cap that sits in our psychedelics category instead of the energizers. That is no accident. The active substance is Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (150 mg per capsule), a tropical climbing vine from India whose seeds contain d-lysergamide (LSA). LSA is a natural relative of LSD: chemically similar, but milder and more body-oriented in its effects.
The experience typically begins after 30 to 45 minutes. Colours become more vivid, patterns may shift, music sounds fuller. Many users describe moments of clear introspection and an altered sense of time. The effects can last 6 to 8 hours, with a gentle tail that some people still feel the next morning as a slightly foggy sensation.
Each capsule also contains 20 mg of caffeine (roughly a quarter cup of coffee). That caffeine offsets the drowsy undertone that LSA experiences are known for. The recommended dose is 1 capsule per 24 hours. If it is your first time: stick to one. Intensity is hard to predict because LSA concentrations in plant material vary between batches.

Warning: never combine with MAO inhibitors, alcohol or other psychoactive substances. LSA causes nausea in many users, especially on a full stomach. Not suitable for those with psychiatric vulnerabilities or a family history of psychosis.
Euphor-E: euphoria without the dance floor
Euphor-E revolves around Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum), a succulent plant native to the Cape region of South Africa. The Khoikhoi and San chewed the dried plant for centuries to ease stress and lift mood. The active alkaloid is called mesembrine. It acts as a natural serotonin reuptake inhibitor: it blocks the reabsorption of serotonin in the brain, leaving more of this neurotransmitter available. The mechanism resembles that of SSRI medication, but shorter and milder in effect.
The Euphor-E capsule contains a 10x concentrated Kanna extract alongside guarana (providing caffeine and theobromine) for an energetic layer, and synephrine for added alertness. The result: you feel more social, more relaxed and more upbeat. The effect sets in after about 30 minutes and lasts a few hours.
In our experience, Euphor-E is the variant that works best for social situations where you do not want to trip but do want to feel more. A birthday party, a house gathering, a concert where you want to be present and connected without losing your footing. No visual changes, no hours-long aftermath.

Warning: Euphor-E must NEVER be combined with SSRIs (such as paroxetine, fluoxetine or sertraline) or MAO inhibitors. Kanna raises serotonin levels; combining it with medication that does the same creates a risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening overload of the serotonin system. If you are on any medication, consult your doctor first.
Party-E: built for the dance floor
Party-E sits in the energizer section and does exactly what that position promises: deliver energy. The main ingredient is Dendrobium nobile extract, derived from an orchid used in traditional Chinese medicine. Dendrobium contains alkaloids (including dendrobine) that stimulate the central nervous system. The capsule also includes caffeine for an immediate spike and passionflower extract (Passiflora), which provides a mildly calming counterweight so the energy does not feel jittery.
The combination produces a capsule that keeps you awake, lifts your mood and extends your physical stamina. In our experience, the effect lasts 4 to 6 hours. You are present, you have energy, you want to move. But your perception stays clear: no visual effects, no deep introspection. Party-E is functional. It keeps you on the dance floor until the lights come on.

Sex-E: for the bedroom
Sex-E targets a very different moment. The formula centres on three herbs with a long history as aphrodisiacs. Turnera diffusa, better known as Damiana (100 mg), has been used in Central America for centuries to stimulate libido. Tribulus terrestris (100 mg), a thorny herb from the Ayurvedic tradition, is associated with improved blood circulation. Withania somnifera, or Ashwagandha (100 mg), works as an adaptogen: it lowers cortisol levels and reduces stress, which indirectly benefits the sexual response.
Each capsule also contains 125 mg of L-Arginine, an amino acid that stimulates the body's production of nitric oxide (NO). NO widens blood vessels and improves blood flow, including to the genitals. The added vitamins and minerals (magnesium 66.5 mg, zinc 3.3 mg, B6, folic acid, B12) support hormonal balance.
Sex-E is designed for both men and women. The effect begins after 30 to 45 minutes on an empty stomach. Users report heightened libido, greater sensitivity to touch and a feeling of warmth. The effect lasts a few hours.

Which scenario, which capsule?
A quiet evening at home with good music and candlelight: Trip-E. This is the capsule for introspection and sensory depth. Do not take it to a busy party; the psychedelic effect calls for a calm, familiar setting.
A birthday party, house gathering or casual dinner: Euphor-E. You want to feel good and be more sociable, but the evening needs to stay functional. Euphor-E offers that warm uplift without losing your grip on a conversation.
A night out at a club, festival or dance event: Party-E. This is about stamina and energy. Party-E keeps you awake, moving and in a good mood. Those who want a more euphoric edge sometimes take two capsules (never more), or look at MDAA, another popular formula in our energizer range.
A romantic evening with your partner: Sex-E. This is not about energy or visuals, but about intimacy and libido. Take the capsule together, 45 minutes before the moment.
Safety: five rules for all Happy Caps
1. No stacking. Never take two different Happy Caps variants on the same evening. The formulas are not designed to be combined and the interactions have not been tested.
2. Leave the alcohol. All four capsules are advised against in combination with alcohol. Alcohol affects the same neurotransmitter systems and makes effects unpredictable.
3. No medication without consulting your doctor. This applies especially to Euphor-E (no SSRIs or MAO inhibitors due to serotonin risk) and Trip-E (no psychiatric medication), but is a sensible rule for the entire range.
4. Empty stomach. All four work best on an empty or light stomach. For Trip-E, this also reduces the chance of nausea.
5. Know your limits. Start with one capsule. Wait for the full effect before considering a second. For Trip-E: always stick to one if it is your first time.
Frequently asked questions
Are Happy Caps legal in the Netherlands?
Yes. All ingredients in Trip-E, Euphor-E, Party-E and Sex-E are legally available in the Netherlands. The capsules do not fall under the Dutch Opium Act.
Can I combine Happy Caps with cannabis?
It is not recommended. Cannabis significantly amplifies the effect of Trip-E and can cause unexpected interactions with the other variants. Never tried Happy Caps before? Do not mix.
How long should I wait before taking another capsule?
At least 24 hours. For Trip-E, we recommend at least 48 hours of rest between sessions, because the aftereffects can linger.
I take antidepressants. Can I use Euphor-E?
No. Kanna acts on the same serotonin system as SSRIs and SNRIs. The combination can lead to serotonin syndrome. Always consult your doctor before using herbal supplements alongside medication.
