Description

Banisteriopsis muricata

Banisteriopsis muricata is also known as “Red banisteriopsis caapi.”

Banisteriopsis muricata and Banisteriopsis caapi

The chemical composition of Banisteriopsis muricata is very similar to that of Banisteriopsis caapi, also known as the legendary “vine of the soul” or “soul vine.” The vine forms the basis of an important brew that holds great ceremonial significance in the Amazon rainforest and among certain tribes in the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador.

Like B. Caapi, B. Muricata is a member of the Malpighiaceae family.

Although the plant is best known for its special potency, this vine is richly steeped in cultural mythology and tradition. While it is revered internationally, it is still considered a highly mysterious plant, perhaps one of the most fascinating and culturally rich plants on Earth.

Scientific analysis has shown that the vines contain approximately 0.11–0.83% beta-carbolines, the majority of which are harmaline and tetrahydroharmaline. The vine also contains various alkaloids.

Warning

B. muricata contains substances that inhibit MAO. This means the plant can be very dangerous when combined with certain foods or other psychoactive substances that are not dangerous on their own. Always consult a doctor before using such a substance.

The vine is sold here strictly as a botanical specimen. Banisteriopsis muricata is not sold here for consumption; please review our disclaimer before placing your order.
