Attention, lovers of sex and cannabis: new research shows that using marijuana can give women’s sex lives a huge boost. So go ahead and pull that bag of weed out of the closet, toss some buds in the grinder, and light up! Or even better: vaporize it! Did you know that vaporizing cannabis in a herbal vaporizer is way more effective than smoking a joint? More on that in a later blog post!
More Pleasurable Sex
In a study published in Sexual Health, researchers at Saint Louis University asked women to compare their sexual experiences with and without marijuana beforehand. Of the nearly 400 participants who took part, 68 percent described sex while using marijuana as “more enjoyable,” 60 percent reported an “increase in sexual desire,” and 52 percent experienced an “increase in satisfying orgasms.” Those are amazing numbers!
Among those surveyed, about 50 percent described themselves as “non-marijuana users,” with a general majority identifying as white and heterosexual—figures that seem fairly irrelevant to us, but you might be interested in them… According to experts, the study offers an interesting solution for the more than 80 percent of women who say they have difficulty reaching orgasm. Additionally, it aligns seamlessly with previous studies on the combination of cannabis and sexual pleasure.
Sexual desire
A frequently cited study, published in 1984 in The Journal of Sex Research, found evidence that marijuana “enhanced sexual function” in about 66 percent of respondents. The largest study of its kind was published by Stanford University in October 2017, in which they surveyed more than 28,000 women and 22,000 men to see if marijuana use reduced their sexual desire. The result was the opposite: the researchers concluded that cannabis users have about 20 percent more sex than people who do not use cannabis.
If you are an avid cannabis user yourself and have also noticed an increase in your level of sexual pleasure, we unfortunately cannot yet tell you why cannabis has such an effect on your sex life. "The question of how marijuana leads to these positive changes in sexual function remains unknown," write the authors of the study on sexual health. "It has been hypothesized that it improves sexual function simply by reducing stress and anxiety. It may reduce sexual inhibitions and increase confidence and willingness to experiment,” they continued.
Stimulate your senses!
In addition, the researchers point to marijuana’s ability to stimulate our senses, heighten the sense of touch, and encourage greater physical intimacy. In short: cannabis simply makes the entire sexual experience more enjoyable, for whatever reasons.
