This XL-Mycelium Box contains the mycelium of the Psilocybe cubensis strain 'B+'. The B+ mycelium is grown on a substrate of rye and perlite. The top layer is covered with vermiculite.

The B+ strain: what makes it special?
The B+ (also known as "Be Positive") is one of the most widely cultivated Psilocybe cubensis strains in the world. The strain is known for its large, meaty fruiting bodies with a wide cap and thick stem. The cap can reach a diameter of 5 to 10 cm in fully grown specimens. In terms of potency, B+ falls in the middle of the cubensis family: stronger than Golden Teacher, milder than the more extreme varieties like Penis Envy. This makes B+ suitable for people who already have experience with magic mushrooms and are looking for a reliable strain that’s easy to dose.
B+ also offers a practical advantage for growers: the strain colonizes quickly, is relatively tolerant of minor fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and consistently produces multiple flushes per kit. The XL box with 2100cc of substrate significantly increases the potential harvest per flush compared to the medium kits (1200cc).
How do you use the B+ XL grow kit?
The XL Mycelium Box is designed as a ready-to-grow kit: the mycelium is already fully established in the substrate. You don’t need to inoculate spores or prepare a substrate yourself. The steps are simple:
Remove the box from the packaging and take off the lid. Rinse the inside of the lid with tap water. Fill the box to the brim with water (about 1 liter) and replace the lid. Let the box soak for 12 hours so the substrate becomes well hydrated. Then pour off the excess water. Place the box in the included growing bag, fold the top closed, and place it in a warm spot between 22 and 25°C, away from direct sunlight. Ventilate the bag briefly twice a day by opening it and gently shaking it. The first pins will appear within 1 to 2 weeks.
Harvest the mushrooms when the veil under the cap is still just intact or just beginning to tear. After the first harvest, you can re-soak the kit for a second and sometimes third flush. The total yield from an XL kit can be significantly higher than that of a medium kit due to the larger amount of available substrate. Psilocybin Effects and Dosage
The active ingredient in B+ magic mushrooms is psilocybin, which is converted into psilocin in the body. Psilocin acts as a partial agonist on serotonin receptors, particularly the 5-HT2A receptor. Effects typically begin 20 to 60 minutes after ingestion and last 4 to 6 hours. Typical experiences include visual distortions, a drastically altered sense of time, intense emotional awareness, and, at higher doses, deep introspective or spiritual experiences.
A common dosage chart for fresh B+ magic mushrooms, based on body weight and desired intensity:
Microdosing (subperceptual): 0.1 to 0.3 grams fresh weight. Light dose (beginners): 1 to 2 grams. Moderate dose: 2 to 3.5 grams. Strong dose (experienced users): 3.5 to 5 grams. High dose: over 5 grams, only for very experienced users in a safe setting.
Fresh magic mushrooms contain a lot of moisture. The dry weight is roughly 10 times lower: 1 gram dry is equivalent to approximately 10 grams fresh. Be aware of this difference when dosing based on dried material.
Harm reduction: safe use
Magic mushrooms are powerful psychedelics. Use is restricted to individuals 18 years of age and older. Proper preparation significantly reduces the risk of a negative experience.
Set and setting are the most important variables. "Set" refers to your mental state beforehand: do not use magic mushrooms if you feel emotionally unstable, anxious, or stressed. "Setting" refers to your physical environment: choose a familiar, safe space and avoid crowded, unfamiliar, or uncontrollable situations. Make sure you have a sober and trusted trip companion if you have little experience.
Never combine magic mushrooms with alcohol, lithium, MAO inhibitors, or other psychoactive substances. Do not use them if you have a personal or family history of psychosis or schizophrenia. Do not drive or operate machinery during or for at least 12 hours after use. Keep magic mushrooms out of reach of children and pets.
If you’re having a bad trip: change your surroundings, lie down, focus on your breathing, and remind yourself that the experience is temporary. A benzodiazepine (such as diazepam) can help alleviate an acute trip in cases of severe distress; if in doubt, consult a doctor or call 911. The yield varies per kit and per flush, but with 2100cc of substrate, the potential harvest is significantly higher than with the 1200cc medium kit. First flushes are usually the largest. Multiple flushes are possible; the kit is exhausted when no new buds appear after soaking.
What is the difference between the XL and the medium grow kit?
The XL grow kit contains 2100cc of substrate, while the medium kit contains 1200cc. That’s 80% more volume and therefore a correspondingly larger potential harvest. Can I also get spore material from the B+?
This is possible with mature mushrooms that have shed their veil. For this, you’ll need spore syringes or spore prints. Dutch-Smart also sells B+ spore material separately if you want to inoculate it yourself.
What should I do if I see green, black, or pink mold?
That is contamination, almost always Trichoderma (green) or another type of mold. In that case, dispose of the kit in a sealed plastic bag: do not open the bag indoors, as mold spores spread quickly. A contaminated kit cannot be salvaged. Prevent contamination by keeping your hands and workspace clean and by not keeping the bag open unnecessarily long when ventilating.
Is the B+ XL grow kit also suitable as a starter kit?
In terms of growing experience, yes: the B+ is one of the easiest Psilocybe cubensis strains to grow. In terms of usage experience, we recommend that beginners start with a lower dose or first gain experience with magic truffles, which are pre-packaged and provide a more precisely controlled dose.
