Salvia divinorum 10X extract
The 10X designation indicates the concentration ratio: this extract contains ten times as much salvinorin A per gram as untreated dried leaves. It is produced by impregnating dried Salvia divinorum leaves with a concentrated salvinorin A solution, after which the mixture is dried and finely ground. The resulting extract therefore has a homogeneous composition and a consistent active ingredient content per gram.
The 10X variant positions itself as an intermediate step in the range: stronger than the 5X, but significantly milder than the higher concentrations such as 20X, 30X, and 40X. The full Salvia divinorum range goes up to 80X.
Active Ingredient
The psychoactive effect of Salvia divinorum is entirely attributable to salvinorin A, a terpenoid compound that is unique among psychoactive plant substances: it is the only known potent non-alkaloid psychedelic. Salvinorin A acts as a selective kappa-opioid receptor agonist and has no affinity for the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor, the mechanism through which classic psychedelics such as psilocybin and LSD work. This explains the distinct experience profile: more dissociative in character, shorter in duration, and with a different sensory quality than tryptamine psychedelics.
At the 10X concentration, the required amount per session is correspondingly smaller than with dried leaves or the 5X variant. The substance is rapidly broken down in the body, which explains the short duration of action of 5 to 15 minutes when smoked.
Use and Dosage
Salvia extract is smoked using a pipe or bong. For the 10X variant, approximately 0.05 to 0.1 grams per session is sufficient. A small amount is fully inhaled in one long drag and held in for as long as possible, usually 20 to 30 seconds, for maximum absorption through the lung lining. The onset occurs within 5 to 30 seconds after exhaling.
When using the 10X, always use less than you think you need. The higher concentration reduces the margin for an unintentionally intense experience. A precise scale that measures hundredths of a gram is essential. Start with 0.05 grams and assess the effect before taking more, if necessary, with at least one full day in between.

Storage

Harm reduction
Salvia divinorum is one of the most potent known psychoactive plants. At higher concentrations, such as the 10X, the effects can be completely disorienting, even for experienced users.
Never use alone. Always ensure you have a sober companion who can stay with you for the entire duration of the experience. Choose a safe sitting position on the floor or in a chair; never stand or be near water, fire, or stairs. Remove potentially dangerous objects from the immediate vicinity before consumption.
Do not combine salvia with alcohol, cannabis, benzodiazepines, or other psychoactive substances. Driving or operating machinery is strictly discouraged during and for at least several hours after use. Do not use if you have a history of psychiatric conditions, particularly psychosis or dissociative disorders, and do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
