What is canary grass?
Canary grass, officially known as Phalaris arundinacea, is one of the naturally occurring sources of DMT. The plant is native to Canada but can also be found in Northern Europe and the northern half of the U.S. The grass can grow up to 2 meters tall and often forms clumps. Canary grass is typically found in wet areas, but it can also thrive at high altitudes and in dry conditions.

Phalaris arundinacea is a remarkable herb, primarily due to the presence of high concentrations of DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, bufotenine, and beta-carbolines. The alkaloid content increases when the plant is stressed and begins to wither, but is not yet dead. In a way, this aligns with the theory that DMT is also released in the human body when we are on the verge of death. That’s certainly food for thought! The herb is used by some to make ayahuasca.
Canary grass has one of the highest concentrations of DMT found in nature. DMT, in turn, is one of the most psychedelic substances known today. Together with plants such as Banisteriopsis Caapi, these DMT-containing plants, like canary grass, are used to make variations of the Amazonian brew Ayahuasca. Many users consume this drink to experience a spiritual awakening or a “rebirth” of the soul. In South American countries, authentic ayahuasca sessions have been held for hundreds of years. These are typically guided by a shaman.

The DMT and 5-MeO-DMT in Canary Grass are responsible for intense visual hallucinations and a certain intoxication. Both types of DMT are different, but they are each considered among the most psychedelic substances found in nature. Although the use of the plant has only recently gained popularity, the DMT-containing plant, as described above, can be used to make ayahuasca. To do this, Canary Grass is combined with other substances that prevent your intestines from breaking down the active compounds, as typically happens with DMT in the body.
Cultivation of Canary Grass
The seeds can be scattered on a layer of soil at least 10 cm deep. Make sure there is between 5 and 10 mm of space between the seeds. Gently press the seeds into the soil after spreading them evenly. Keep the soil moist, especially in the first few weeks after sowing. This plant germinates easily, and after a few months, the seedlings are large enough to harvest.
