Do you enjoy having a beer or a nice glass of whiskey every now and then? You’re not alone. In fact, we all enjoy a nice drink every once in a while. But while beer, wine, whiskey, and rum are readily available everywhere, that’s not yet the case for cannabis. And that’s despite the fact that cannabis is actually the much safer drug of the two. And we’re going to explain exactly why that’s true today with 7 scientifically backed reasons!
It doesn’t make you fat
Let’s start with one of the most basic reasons why weed is “better” than alcohol: it simply doesn’t make you fat. Alcohol isn’t a calorie bomb on its own, but especially when you start adding sugary drinks and downing multiple glasses a night, the calories add up fast. Cannabis, on the other hand, contains no calories and therefore doesn’t cause weight gain. In fact, some studies suggest that cannabis can actually help you lose weight!
You remember almost everything
We all know that drinking too much can lead to major blackouts. It happens often enough that you’re so drunk you simply lose track of a large part of the evening. This not only provides your friends with perfect blackmail material but can also be dangerous. Cannabis doesn’t really have these kinds of effects, and after a nice joint or a good hit from the bong, you almost always remember what happened that night. Always handy, right?
It doesn’t make you violent
This is one of the main reasons why cannabis is considered safer than alcohol. We all know that alcohol can cause quite a bad temper in many people. There is a wealth of evidence showing that excessive alcohol consumption is linked to violence, including domestic violence or just a serious brawl at the bar. However, a 2014 study showed that regular cannabis use within relationships is actually linked to significantly lower rates of domestic violence.
No terrible hangover
Most people who drink a lot of alcohol also dread that awful hangover the next morning. From mild to severe hangovers, we all agree that they’re pretty unpleasant experiences. Fortunately, there’s cannabis, a wonderful green herb that doesn’t really give you a hangover. So it’s perfect if you have to go back to work the next morning or have a family gathering on the agenda.
Lower risk of injury
We all know that alcohol doesn’t exactly have a positive effect on motor skills. While this negative effect might be mild enough to just make you unable to walk in a straight line, there are many more dangers it brings with it. Countless accidents occur under the influence of alcohol, far fewer than with cannabis. Of course, it’s not exactly smart to go on an adventure while stoned, but the risk of accidents is at least a lot lower than if you’ve been drinking whiskey all night.
You don’t get addicted to it
Alcoholism is a serious problem and, unfortunately, it is incredibly common. People of every gender, age, and socioeconomic status become addicted to alcohol in droves. And as with all addictions, it is a disease that affects not only the alcoholic but also their loved ones. There is absolutely no scientific evidence that cannabis is addictive. Most experts even agree that this is not the case and that it can actually help combat addiction.
No Risk of Overdose
When considering why cannabis is safer than alcohol, this is perhaps the most important reason. Alcohol poisoning is a very serious problem that can even lead to death. Furthermore, it is much easier than you might think to consume a lethal amount of alcohol. A lethal dose of cannabis does exist, but you’d have to smoke about 750 kilograms of it. Theoretically, of course, because no one has ever died from the effects of pure cannabis use.
