Yesterday, on the Dutch-Smart blog, we shared 7 must-have items to help you get the most out of your cannabis. Today, we’re talking about the wonderful herb again, but this time not about how you use it, but where you use it. No, not your man cave or backyard—there’s a much more special moment to enjoy cannabis. How about your wedding? We’re not making this up: In more and more U.S. states—where weed is increasingly legal—cannabis is taking center stage on the wedding day…

Say Yes to the Blunt

Forget everything you thought you knew about planning a wedding. Throwing a standard bridal bouquet? A buffet with spring rolls or satay skewers? No, it can really be so much better. That’s exactly what the company behind Bud & Blossoms thought, for example. This American company became “Colorado’s first cannabis florist for weddings and special events” in 2016. Yes, really! So you can hire this company to give your wedding just that extra green touch—and we’re not talking about a roof full of solar panels. The company—and now many others—can transform your wedding into a veritable cannabis paradise in no time.

And what do they call these professionals? “Budtenders”—a greener version of a bartender. In the land of the free, there are even professional budtenders trained in the effects of cannabis and how it can influence people. In fact, some go so far as to determine exactly which type of cannabis suits you best based on a brief conversation. Complete with a menu, weddings in the United States are simply celebrated with an open cannabis bar. In some cases, the bartender and budtender work together to serve up special marijuana drinks. And we used to think we were ahead of the rest of the world…

CannaCocktails

In addition to offering dozens of different types of cannabis to smoke, these companies also serve up real “CannaCocktails.” Instead of alcohol, these non-alcoholic drinks contain THC or CBD, which are then mixed with juices and garnishes to create delicious, distinctive drinks. “These low-THC/CBD mocktails are really fun. They combine the familiarity of socializing with a drink in hand with the novelty of cannabis. And the best part is that they don’t cause a hangover,” says Catherine Goldberg of WeedBarLA.

Different types of cannabis have different flavor profiles and aromas, making them a great addition to a buffet or dinner, according to the budtenders. “Just like with wine, we encourage guests to smell each strain to pick up on the terpenes (the organic compounds that give plants their scent).” Here at the Dutch-Smart smartshop, we sell a wide variety of CBD strains, so maybe it’s time to start some tasty budtending!

Choose a cannabis bouquet

If you thought cannabis at your wedding (in the US—here in the Netherlands, it’s not a good idea yet…) was only meant for consumption, you’re wrong. Think outside the box! “The best way I’ve seen cannabis incorporated into a wedding was as part of the bridal bouquets and table arrangements,” says Caroline Phillips, founder and executive producer of the National Cannabis Festival and the National Cannabis Festival Policy Summit. “The florist beautifully accented the bride’s bouquet with stunning cannabis buds in full bloom. Cannabis flowers are truly beautiful and complex, and they looked so elegant among the more traditional floral selections.”

In short: the possibilities for cannabis at your wedding are endless. From bridal bouquets to cocktails and joint bars, the future of weddings looks greener than ever. It just needs to become legal in the Netherlands first...
