There are more than 100 cannabinoids found in a cannabis plant. With the exception of THC, they all contain small amounts of psychoactive compounds. However, these small amounts offer benefits for both medical and recreational use. One of these cannabinoids is CBG, and it’s poised to take the world by storm!

Is CBG the new CBD?

CBG is not psychoactive and does not get you high. The effects of CBG are far more significant than its psychoactive properties. CBG demonstrates therapeutic potential and will therefore be used for its medicinal properties.

Effects of CBG

The CBG cannabinoid is very interesting. Its interaction appears to be linked to other chemical compounds in cannabis. For the CB1 receptor, CBG acts as a signaling molecule. This affects the central nervous system. When THC causes paranoia due to cannabis use, CBG can help reduce it. The interaction between CBG and the CB1 receptors is weaker, but it still produces noticeable effects.

Difference between CBG and CBD

Both CBG and CBD contain non-psychoactive compounds. There are a number of factors that distinguish CBG from CBD. The most obvious difference is the lack of direct interaction with the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These are the two most important cannabinoid receptors in our central nervous system and in our brains. CBG also acts partly as a signaling substance for these receptors. These effects are nowhere near as potent as those of THC.

CBG increases the production of anandamide. This is the body’s primary endogenous cannabinoid. Anandamide helps your body regulate your appetite, sleep, and memory. In doing so, it interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CBG and Cancer

Cannabis is used as a treatment method for certain symptoms of specific types of cancer. CBG can play an integral role in this, as shown by a 2009 study. Here, it is used as a pain reliever, but also to inhibit tumor growth. CBG is not the only cannabinoid involved in this process, but it does play a major role.
