It has hollow stems, large leaves, and occasionally white flowers with purple calyxes. Salvia belongs to the sage family, which includes over 1,000 known species. The Salvia Divinorum plant contains a powerful psychoactive compound called salvinorin A. This is largely responsible for the “visionary journey,” as many describe the effects.
