Cannabis Facts: Five Interesting Facts
Do you think you know everything about cannabis, and want to test if that’s true? Or do you want to learn more about it before you start using it? In this blog post, we’ve listed five interesting facts about cannabis.
1: A joint helps you relax
Cannabis often acts as an amplifier of your emotions. That can be a good thing if you’re feeling good, but it can also be unpleasant. If you suffer from panic attacks, for example, it might be better to hold off on using cannabis for a while. Many people who’ve “just” had a somewhat stressful day do report being able to relax better after smoking a joint. Keep in mind that the effects can vary from person to person, so take a moment to assess whether this is a good time for you or not.
2: Want to experience the medicinal effects without smoking? Try spacecake
Space cake is cake made with hashish or marijuana. The effects of space cake kick in later than when you smoke cannabis. Be careful with the dosage: because the effects kick in later, you might think, “Hey, it’s not working,” which could make you want to take another piece. This creates the risk of taking too much: the effects will then last longer and be more intense than you intended. So start slowly, and give the cake time to take effect.
3: How do those cannabis strains get their names?
When it comes to cannabis, you sometimes hear the strangest names. How does that happen? The person who creates the strain—for example, by crossing certain plants—gets to choose the name. How they do that varies from person to person. We sometimes think that the more weed you’ve used, the more creative the name becomes…
However, there is sometimes confusion about the names. Coffeeshops don’t always use the same names for the same product, which can make it difficult to know what you’re buying. And have you ever heard of Nederwiet? This isn’t a single specific strain, but the term refers to cannabis produced in the Netherlands. This cannabis, which is said to be stronger than what’s produced abroad, is also sold under a wide variety of names.
4: Other ways to use hemp
Did you know that the fibers of the hemp plant can also be used to make ropes or textiles? And that some types of (fiber) hemp are also used as animal feed these days? This hemp isn’t suitable for smoking, but is used purely as feed for cows, for example. A livestock farmer from Voorst grows the hemp completely legally on his own property and has noticed, among other things, that the productivity of his herd has increased since he started feeding the hemp to his animals.

5: Different effects in men and women
Research published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence has shown that men and women react differently to cannabis. For instance, women are said to be more sensitive to its pain-relieving qualities, but they also develop a tolerance more quickly and may therefore become addicted more easily.
