Have you been stuck at home since the lockdown and have no idea what to do with all that free time? You’ve probably already watched all the great shows and movies on Netflix and find yourself scrolling through the same posts on Facebook over and over again. Well, in the United States, people know exactly what to do with all those extra hours they have to spend at home with their partner. A survey of more than 24,000 American adults shows that most of them use those extra hours for one shared hobby: sex.

Netflix... and chill?
Let’s just assume that we Dutch are just as horny (or hornier) as those Americans, so these figures probably apply to us too. The survey shows that one in eight people are having more sex with their partner than usual during this coronavirus crisis. Americans in their twenties and thirties, in particular, seem to be quite physically active during the lockdown. Nearly a quarter of 25- to 34-year-olds (23%) say they’ve had sex with their partner more often in the past two weeks than they normally would.

Of course, during a lockdown like this, you’ll have to put in a little more effort to keep sex interesting. When you’re sitting next to each other 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and a trip to the hair salon isn’t an option, it’s natural that you might start seeing your partner in a different light than usual. Fortunately, there’s plenty of room to experiment with sex. In our online sex shop, for example, we sell a wide variety of interesting sex toys that you can use to take your sex life to the next level and try something new during these days off.

Safety First
It all sounds fun (and hot), but is sex during a crisis like this really such a good idea? If we’re to believe the various health advisories, it’s perfectly fine—as long as you’re doing it with your partner, who you also happen to live with. Keeping a 1.5-meter distance is only going to work for the very well-endowed men (ouch), but there are, of course, some tips you can follow to minimize the health risks.
For example, skip sex if you or your partner are feeling sick. Sounds obvious, but you never know. Also, it goes without saying that the virus spreads very easily during sex, so using a condom might not be a luxury. Check out our condoms here. It’s also advisable to keep washing your hands thoroughly before and after sex, and keeping your sex toys clean is crucial.

What if you don’t have a partner?
If you’re reading all this and thinking, “But I don’t have a partner at all,” that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a little extra eroticism. In fact: as you can see, the same survey shows that one in twenty (5%) Americans has recently sent an explicit text or message, and slightly fewer say they’ve had phone sex (3%). Sex via video chat and sending a nude photo also score reasonably well at 3%. And since we here at Dutch-Smart aren’t the least bit stingy, we have one more tip for you: adult website PornHub.com is giving away their Premium membership for free during this crisis. That should keep you busy for a few hours!
